Taking center stage at the Shanghai Auto Show was the Volvo concept Universe.  As the first project done under Peter Horbury since his return to Volvo, and new owner Geely the car marks a departure from current design languages and returns to simple Scandinavian design. GM may extend Saab deadline, report says

General Motors is prepared to wait beyond the end of this week before deciding on the future of Saab as it reviews remaining bids, Bloomberg News reported. The news agency quoted Saab board member Paul Aakerlund as saying that if there is a bid that GM finds sufficiently interesting, then GM's Dec. 31 decision to wind down its Swedish unit "is not a date that's holy.” Aakerlund said GM told Saab last week that it would wind down Saab and simultaneously continue talks with bidders about a sale, said Aakerlund, who also heads the IF Metall union at Saab.

Public Says No To Motorway Go Slow Plans

IT’S A BIG ‘no’ from the motoring public on the subject of lowering motorway speed limits, according to a survey conducted by car supermarket firm Motorpoint. In light of recent proposals to reduce to 60mph the speed limit on a 34-mile section of the M1 spanning Derbyshire and South Yorkshire due to pollution concerns, the web-based survey found 78.1 per cent of drivers opposed such measures. Over 4,100 people participated in the poll on the company’s website – www.motorpoint.co.uk.
